In the Pink - Fine Photo Art Gallery

In the Pink, a fine photo art gallery has just opened in the heart of Loulé.

Located on the main avenida, In the Pink is a beautifully restored historical building situated over 3 levels, and currently has its Fashion Exhibition running until the 3rd September. Each floor is dedicated to showcase the work of each artist, offering over 40 pieces by renowned international photographers, Bastiaan Woudt, Albert Watson and Kristian Schuller.

Dutch photographer Bastiaan Woudt's work is presented on the ground floor of the gallery, capturing monochrome minimalism and portraiture beautifully. His work is 'inspired by the great masters of 50s, 60s and 70s photography. He honours this era while exploring how modern methods can elevate the style of today. With his charcoal tones and elegant compositions, his photography feels like stepping into a modern painting'*

Scottish born Albert Watson started his career in the 1970s and is an iconic photographer known for his diversification of amalgamating art, fashion and commercial photography into some of the most celebrated images worldwide. His striking pieces 'have appeared on hundreds of covers of Vogue and whose images have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide and are included in prominent collections. Both, icons and photographs that have never been exhibited before, such as “Maggie Maurer in Giambattista Valli, Paris” published in the December Issue of Vogue Portugal, are part of the selection'*

Kristian Schuller is a Romanian photographer, raised in Germany who has studied fashion design with Vivienne Westwood. His images 'capture the colours, the exuberance, the fantasy, glamour and brightness. Schuller loves to tell stories and wants to transport the viewer into his extravagantly staged fairy tales and colourful worlds'* Located on the top floor of the gallery, Kristian's works are aesthetically striking.

The Pink Palacete in the heart of Loulé was the inspiration for a new centre of culture in the Algarve. Acquired in early 2021 in the middle of the pandemic by Philip and Anja Burks, it soon became obvious that their mutual passion as collectors of Contemporary Photography would embrace the newly prized acquisition and the concept of In The Pink, a gallery for fine photo art, was born. Philip and Anja bring to the project expertise in the world of property, finance and art together with their long standing love for the Algarve.

In The Pink clearly relates to the use of the Pink Building but it is also a term used to describe being in good health and perfect condition. This upbeat message is intrinsic to how the gallery wants to portray itself, attract exceptional talent and produce world class exhibitions in a dialogue with local and global audiences.

Under the direction of Pedro Vasconi, In The Pink will present a carefully curated programme of national and international contemporary photography, claiming for this medium the dignified space it deserves in the contemporary art scene.

In the Pink is most definitely worth a trip into Loulé, and easily identifiable from its pink exterior. Located on Praça da República 69-75, just down from the Mercado Municipal (market building).
